Micron to discontinue memory card division: Treasure Valley impact

Boise-based Micron Technology this week said it would drop its memory card division Lexar.

Micron picked up Lexar in 2006 for $688 million, but this week said it would discontinue selling the products.

In a blog, consumer group VP Jay Hawkins said "Micron is exploring opportunities to sell all or part of the Lexar business."

BoiseDev asked Micron for comment on any potential Boise-area layoffs from the move.

"We aren’t disclosing specifics where all of our team members are located," Head of Global PR Marc Musgrove said "In terms of... the Treasure Valley, I would point out that this decision impacts the Lexar business only – the Crucial and Ballistix brands continue to be part of the Micron portfolio."

Lexar has its primary base of operations in Milpitas, CA.
